Cardamoms (Elaichi) are the dried capsules of a small group of species or plants belonging to the family Zingiberaceae, which contain seeds possessing a pleasant characteristic aroma. Cardamom is well known as a cooking spice with rich aroma and flavor. What many people don’t know is that cardamom has many health benefits too.
There have been many uses that varied over the centuries. The uses may be considered as medicines, spices and perfumes. Cardamom is used in both spicy-hot ground masala and milder curry blends, especially in East Indian cultures. Cardamom tea is as famous as ginger varieties in India. In some Middle East cultures, a strong cardamom-based called “gahwa” is served daily and considered a necessary when demonstrating hospitality.
